Gas Migration in EBS and Geosphere (GMT)
Excavation of the EBS - Investigations in Layers 8 and 7

Layer 8 is the layer where the top of the concrete silo is reached. A series of gas index tests was also carried out in these layers to determine the order of magnitude permeability.

Box sampling was performed to provide samples for laboratory tests investigating material anisotropy and property changes in the EBS.

Chemical tracers to observe the movement of water in the system were excavated and showed a distinct flow path in the cm range.

The excavation of layer nine allows the top of the concrete silo to be seen for the first time in three years - The areas with rhodamine tracer can also be observed

Rhodamine tracer in layer eight shows the direction of water flow paths

Ingo Blechschmidt (Nagra) prepares for the post mortem analysis following a gas index test
